pound a day. I might regret this in 2 weeks when I have to promptly
run/bike/yoga off 15 pounds, but DAMN it is worth it now. (By the
way, how did I not know until I was 35 that such a thing as granita
exists?!? Frozen strong coffee with whipped cream? Godelijk.)
Eline and I have wandered through every site there is to see, and had
some fantastic laughs along the way. We were starting to worry about
our apparent decline based on our lackluster being-hit-upon rate,
but things turned around tonight. Somehow after a large lunch and
bottle of wine, we thought it was a good idea to stumble into a
boutique to try on clothes. The man "I am a Stylist" dressed us up in
some of the most hilarious outfits. One of them, my favorite, was a
cross between Punks Not Dead and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. Eline
took a picture, so as soon as I have it, I will post it. Every time
I'd emerge from the dressing area with a new look, I'd be sent back
in with a "Oh my god, please, put the heels ON!" I think my stomach
still hurts from laughing so hard. I didn't buy the Punk-Robin look,
but we did emerge quite a bit less wealthy from his little store. I
think I now own clothes that are more stylish than I have ever owned
in my life. And you know, the weird thing is, Eline and I went to the
same bar around the corner that we've gone to every night this week,
but in our new clothes, and got multiple calls from the delightful
Romans...I think the real sign of our decline is that we are PLEASED
to be cat-called. Oh well.
It is a delight to be in this city again. I love it, not just for its
food, but for its amazing atmosphere. We have a lovely apartment in
the middle of Trastevere, the heart of all fun things. We can't go to
sleep until after 11 because of the singing men down in the street
below, and our bedroom window looks out over a typical scene of
laundry hanging to dry on lines with pulleys. And, just in case you
all felt sorry for me eating rice and beans for 3 months, check out
where I'll be next week: http://www.casainitalia.ch/ferienhaus/

heh heh heh. What a life.
